What is shown on a Certificate?

A Standard DBS check will show all spent and unspent convictions, Cautions, Reprimands and Warnings held on the Police National Computer in England and Wales that would not be filtered in line with current guidance, therefore allowing employers to make a more informed recruitment decision. This level of check will also reveal if the candidate appears on government department lists of people who are deemed unsuitable to work with children.

Who will receive my Certificate?

Once the application has been completed and the certificate is issued the DBS will send this directly to the applicants home address. If there is any content that is incorrect, or that the applicant does not agree with they then have time to dispute this before showing their employer.

Pass or Fail?

Over the last few months the question ‘what if I don’t pass my DBS Check?’ has arisen.  As with the Enhanced check there is no Pass or Fail.

The sole reason for a DBS check Enhanced or Standard is for an employer to make a safe recruitment decision, therefore if you have a conviction or caution on your DBS check it is entirely up to your employer’s discretion if they choose to employ you after assessing the conviction in relation to the job role.
